Travel vaccination in Koh Samui
Rabies, tetanus, hepatitis and other travel vaccines given by English-speaking doctors at our walk-in clinic in Bang Rak, minutes from Samui Airport and the Big Buddha. Internationally recognised documentation included with every dose.
Travel vaccines available on the island
Some travellers plan ahead and want protection before heading deeper into Thailand or onward across Asia; others need an urgent vaccine after an animal bite or a rusty cut. We handle both at our clinic, with vaccines drawn from our on-site pharmacy where the cold chain is properly managed. Our English-speaking doctors review your itinerary, vaccination history and any risk factors before recommending what you actually need.
- Rabies — pre-exposure courses and post-exposure vaccination after bites or scratches.
- Tetanus and tetanus-diphtheria — boosters after cuts, coral scrapes and road rash.
- Hepatitis A and B — single doses, boosters and continuation of a series started abroad.
- Typhoid — worth considering for longer stays or travel to rural areas.
- Japanese encephalitis, measles-rubella and influenza — available on request.
Bitten or scratched by an animal? Come in the same day
Thailand is a rabies-risk country, and the virus is almost always fatal once symptoms appear, which is precisely why prompt post-exposure treatment is so important and so effective. If a dog, cat, monkey or bat has bitten or scratched you, or licked broken skin, wash the wound thoroughly with soap and running water and come in the same day. The doctor assesses the exposure, cleans and dresses the injury, and begins the WHO-recommended rabies vaccination schedule. If you completed pre-exposure doses before your trip, tell us, as it changes the course you need.
Prevention beyond the needle
Not every travel illness is stopped by a vaccine. Malaria risk on Koh Samui is very low, but mosquito-borne dengue is common across Thailand and has no vaccine most travellers will have, so bite prevention with repellent matters. Food and water precautions guard against typhoid and other infections from contaminated food. During your visit the doctor will give practical, plain-English advice on staying safe for your particular trip, and if you develop a high fever afterwards we can arrange a blood test and dengue screening at our on-site lab.
What a visit looks like
You will see a doctor who checks your history and allergies before any injection, and you are observed briefly afterwards for safety. Every dose is recorded with the vaccine name, batch number and date, and you leave with international documentation your doctor at home can use to continue the series. Cannot get to us? A doctor can vaccinate you at your accommodation anywhere across Chaweng, Bang Rak, Bophut and island-wide through our hotel and villa visit service. Seek emergency hospital care instead if a bite causes heavy bleeding, or if you notice signs of a serious allergic reaction such as difficulty breathing or facial swelling.
Costs, insurance and paperwork
Prices are quoted before anything is administered, so there are no surprises at the desk. We offer direct billing with most travel insurers, and post-exposure rabies treatment after an animal bite is covered by the majority of policies. We provide itemised receipts and a medical report for reimbursement, and can issue a medical certificate on the spot if your insurer or employer requires one. Our clinic is open daily with a doctor on call 24 hours, so call +66 83 150 2520 and you can usually be seen within the hour.
Frequently Asked Questions
I was bitten by a dog or monkey in Samui. What should I do?
Wash the wound thoroughly with soap and running water for several minutes, then come to the clinic the same day. Thailand is a rabies-risk country, so prompt post-exposure vaccination is important. Our doctors will clean the injury and start the recommended rabies schedule right away.
Can I continue a vaccine series I started in my home country?
Yes. Bring any records you have, and our doctors will continue rabies, hepatitis or other multi-dose series on schedule. Each dose is documented with the vaccine name, batch number and date so your doctor at home can pick up seamlessly.
Which travel vaccines do I need for Thailand?
It depends on your itinerary, length of stay and activities. Commonly recommended options include tetanus, hepatitis A and B, typhoid and rabies, with Japanese encephalitis for longer rural stays. The doctor will review your plans and advise what is genuinely worthwhile.
Do you provide an international vaccination certificate?
Yes. Every vaccination is recorded with full details and you receive internationally recognised documentation. This lets any doctor abroad continue your series and satisfies insurers or employers who require proof of the vaccines given.
Do I need a malaria tablet for Koh Samui?
Malaria risk on Koh Samui itself is very low, so most travellers do not need tablets here. Mosquito-borne dengue is a bigger concern across Thailand, so we focus on bite prevention advice. If you are heading to higher-risk rural areas, ask us about antimalarial options.
Can a doctor vaccinate me at my hotel?
Yes. We offer hotel and villa visits across Chaweng, Bang Rak, Bophut and island-wide. A doctor brings the vaccine under proper cold-chain conditions, administers it at your accommodation, and provides the same documentation you would receive at the clinic.
How soon before travel should I get vaccinated?
Ideally a few weeks before departure so multi-dose courses have time to work, but many vaccines still offer worthwhile protection given closer to travel. If you are already here and exposed, such as after an animal bite, treatment should start the same day rather than waiting.
Will my travel insurance cover the vaccines?
Post-exposure rabies treatment after an animal bite is covered by most travel policies, and we offer direct billing with many insurers. For routine pre-travel vaccines, coverage varies, so we always confirm the cost first and provide receipts and a medical report for any claim.
